Similarities Between Indian Food and Mediterranean Food

Indian Food and Mediterranean Food

Although they hail from different parts of the world, Indian food and Mediterranean food have a lot in common. While the ingredients may differ a bit, the main theme of both cuisines is to use the freshest ingredients possible, paired with flavorful spices and herbs. Each cuisine has its own distinct taste, thanks to the native flavors of the regions surrounding the Mediterranean and India. But, taking a closer look, there are many similarities in the preparation and ingredients used when it comes to these two delicious and healthy food traditions.

Both Indian food and Mediterranean food revolve around the usage of ripe fruits and vegetables, rich and flavorful dips and sauces, and soft, oven-baked bread. The distinct and succulent flavors of their dishes reflect the tradition of their individual cuisines, and the overall variety pays homage to all of the surrounding influences of these two regions.

At Caravan Kebab, we offer dishes that incorporate the influence and inspiration from Indian food and Mediterranean food alike. Although the dishes are reflective of their origins, you’ll notice many similarities in our menu offerings. For example, we offer two types of bread for dipping: naan from India, and pita from the Mediterranean region. Both types are made to be flat for dipping in curries, sauces, and dips, yet have their own distinct texture and flavors.

If you feel like having a small bite before the main course, take a look at our appetizer menu. We have numerous options with flavors from all over the Mediterranean and Middle East, once again with remarkable similarity. One of our most popular appetizers is our veggie pakora, which consists of Indian-spiced chickpea flour, potatoes and other veggies, fried together and paired with a yogurt sauce. Similarly, we offer dolmades, a veggie-based Greek favorite. This dish consists of rice, dill and lemon, wrapped in grape leaves and finished off with a tangy Greek yogurt sauce.

For a substantial main course, browse our menu offerings of kebabs, curries, and house specials. Two of our most popular lamb dishes are inspired from both Indian and Mediterranean flavors: our lamb biryani, and our lamb kofta kebab. The lamb biryani consists of tender chunks of lamb simmered in a traditional Indian broth of fresh spices, herbs, raisins, and cashews. Our lamb kofta kebabs are made from freshly-ground lamb meatballs with potatoes, onions, and garlic, served in a warm sesame-tomato-onion sauce.
